Memorial Day

We are closed today but we are participating in the Father Capodanno Four Mile Run.

In its 33rd year, the Memorial Day Run takes on special significance this year.

As always, it will be run through the beachfront communities of Midland Beach, Ocean Breeze and South Beach. But this year, those communities look vastly different in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We cannot run on the boardwalk, since damage is severe and sections are being repaired. So the race will start and end on Capodanno Boulevard.

But more importantly, as home owners try to rebuild and restore, as ravaged homes are demolished, and as people get their lives back to normal, the Advance and Staten Island University Hospital seek to bring a feeling of rejuvenation to the area by bringing more than 1,000 neighbors to run or walk along the beachfront to remember Memorial Day, to remember the lives lost in the storm, and to remember those who suffered, and are still suffering. Where just months ago there were more than 1,000 volunteers helping people sort through the belongings, and their lives, on Memorial Day there will be more than 1,000 people Keeping Hope Alive.

Come run the Memorial Day 4 Mile Run with us.

Meeting at Father Cap and Midland Ave 8:30 am.
